For California, it will count as ACGME. Not sure about Texas because I don't know enough about Texas licensure requirements. Brookdale ED does have EM residents from other programs rotating there so it's at least affiliated with ACGME EM residencies.

Brookdale ED rotation is good for all 50 states. It is ACGME.

Doing peds here now.. one week left in the rotation. I will say the rotation itself is one big disappointment. I was actually looking forward to my peds rotation and have been sadly disappointed. It is a complete waste of time. Now for those of you who want to disappear, and have easy hours, this is most definitely the place to be. Afternoon lectures are decent, although the students are presenting and the preceptor goes over the topic again in way too much detail. Have to do 5 "calls", which techinically are over by 5pm you just have to have a resident sign off on them, which is easy enough to do. Best weeks are er and nicu. PM me if you have any other questions. Oh and i second what others have said about the neighborhood.. not a safe area at all!

I am going to Brookdale for peds soon. i was wondering about the hours for peds rotation, like what time do you have to go in and what time do you get out everyday. How are the ppl, the attendings, nurshing staff etc...... friendly? So what do you do all day if you can provide some info regarding that it'll be great so I'll know what to expect once I go there. You mentioned it's a big waste of time so does that mean you don't do anything and just go and sit there?...maybe this way I can study for step 2 if I don't get to do anything. Any advice/tips on what to expect once I go there will be great. Thanks for your time.

Hello all..I am scheduled to do Peds, IM and Psych at Brookdale. Any thoughts or comments? I have heard about Peds but has anyone done IM or psych there? Thanks

Hey there Rimon,

Peds is a joke, you will definitely have time to study. You spend one week in every area. So.. ER, PICU,Nursery,Adolescent,Child wards,and clinic. Most of the time you can "disappear" after lecture at 12:30. ER week you will end up staying in the afternoon. You are technically supposed to be there until 5, but no one in my group EVER stayed. You are also supposed to do 5 calls until 11pm. Most of my calls were signed out at around 1pm. THere is just not a whole lot to do. Nurses are hit and miss, attendings are all nice. Residents.. are ok. I am here at a bad time since we have all new interns which are really just like 4th year med students. Lectures are decent. You will definitely have plenty of time to study, and Brookdale has one of the nicer libraries of all the hospitals i have rotated, so it is a good place to study. There is USMLE World on all the computers. Good luck.

peds at Brookdale is how you just described except we had to stay til 4-5 for his lectures most days (but that just means you waste time to stay there for mandatory lecture, since there's not much to do during the day)...you just do morning rounds on most weeks and ER makes you stay a little more... the preceptor in the rotation is a pretty cool dude..he's just a little too detailed and outdated with his info (we cited things and he refused to acknowledge he was wrong)...I did the rotation summer 2006, so maybe it changed.. good luck

lecture time has changed to 11am which makes it possible to get out by 12:30 everyday.

I heard the lecture was purposefully kept in the late afternoon just to force students to hang around in the hallways and cram into the nursing nutrition centers and eat all the patient's jell-o, juice and snacks.

the main preceptor was worthless. he kept saying "eh?" "eh?" after every word...that was the highlight of the rotation. he DID give a few good pointers and decent lectures, but once the students took over with lectures, things went downhill sharply. The weekly sub-rotations themselves were completely useless, except the one you do if you have the main preceptor as your attending. I'll bet those residents working there were MAJORLY desperate for a residency to be working in that place...everything is done manually like it probably was in the late 70s and 80s. this was probably one of my most depressing rotations.

oh wow....was that specificially for your rotation, or is it a permanent change?
