brookdale Sub-I
Hello guys, I am scheduled for a medicine Sub-I at Brookdale hospital and I was wondering if anyone has done a med Sub-I there that can give me some idea of how it is. I would really appreciate it. Thanks

parking sub-I
parking: parking garage. $10/day
or you get a stick-on transponder for $7/12hr period and you add money into it like a debit card. There is a covered walkway to the hospital. medicine sub-I: You are assigned to a team (2 interns, 1 resident, 1 attending) and follow them around doing stuff for them. They put no pressure on you, no regular duties. So if you want to slack, they will let you, and they will remember it. Or if you want to work hard, they will let you, and they will remember it. Each intern does short call (till 9pm) q4. If that call falls on a fri or sat then it's 24 hrs. Again, if you want to stay for that, they will let you and they will remember it. The above is the same for a regular core medicine rotation. Except as a sub-I they expect more knowledge, initiative and skills from you. Meanwhile, you are given a topic to read up and present about every other day. The interns are very busy, each one covers 10-12 patients. So they appreciate any help you offer. Which sure beats working like a dog and still getting yelled at.

Thanks a lot for the info. So if I had a bad Medicine core rotation and I worked hard during this Sub-I do you think I will learn a lot in those 4 weeks?

up 2 u
The learning was 90% self-motivated self-initiated.
There were a couple of sit-down-discussions per week. Else you follow the interns around. Then its up to you to read the charts on your own time and look up things on your own time. A good place to practice with butterfly's and ABG's.
