Horrible place to do rotation, currently doing it right now, week 4 of 6, and residents don't do jack, they take your interview material and use it as their own, and you don't learn anything. The lectures are garbage, exception is the child psychiatrist, and you have to sign in and out and are treated like high schoolers here. The residents are all IMG's from overseas and don't know how the US system or culture works all that well and are probably undergoing culture shock but act very egotistic simultaneously, there are some exceptions but they are rare. I don't know how other psych rotations are but words can't describe how disappointed I am here. AVOID.

you have to be there from 8-5 everyday M-F and then your on call days are 5-9 on weekdays and 9-1 on weekends, you only have 3 on call days for the whole 6 weeks. Living in Queens to come here is feasable but will drive you insanse because of the traffic, there's a lot here. I found a place off craig's list not too far away, 10 min drive, from the hospital so I got lucky but in general it is hard to find a place short term here. Still I wouldn't want to come to this place because it's horribly run and the personnel are mostly horrible too. Find another site if possible otherwise you'll find out what I mean.

Disagree
I disagree with the previous posts. I'm currently doing my rotation here. And having listened during lecture I found i learned a good deal of information. And despite the fact the residents are not US grads they are still fun to work with. Granted they don't teach a whole lot, since they are busy, you can still get a lot out of lectures. Now if you are upset about the fact that you have to be told what to do, well thats just too bad. People before us screwed up and now regulations are a bit strict, deal with it. What do you think will happen when you are a resident and you get pooh pooh from attendings? Are you going to complain that you hate medicine b/c attendings are saying stuff to you. And the fact that the resident uses your work means that you did a good job. I'm sure the residents that did use your work gave you good evaluations in return.
I recommend this rotation to people. I mean its pschiatry are you really going to go into it? Its good a rotation b/c you get exposure to different parts of psych. If you are willing to pay attention to lectures you can get a lot out of this. |
