County and State are at odds

Unlikely that the hospital will close but should know if no deal is reached by Friday the 20th. I agree that you should check with BC, the student contact for Prince George's if you are concerned but no one will be sure until the 20th.

Question County and State are at odds

It appears that the board meeting will be on Wednesday, April 18 - after that should know the future of the hospital at least for the next year. Feel free to contact me with questions after that.

thank you for keeping us updated. would be such a tragedy if it closed...for the patients, employees, and surrounding hospitals that are stressed already.

Do you know how many Ross students would be affected by this hospital closing?

Why not research NRMP contract rules. Here's the link. National Resident Match Program

Best of luck with this.

Actually the institutional requirements are promulgated by the ACGME. They are, in pertinent part:

Residency Closure/Reduction: The Sponsoring Institution must have a written policy that addresses a reduction in size or closure of a residency program. The policy must specify

  1. that if the Sponsoring Institution intends to reduce the size of an ACGME-accredited program or close a residency program, the Sponsoring Institution must inform the residents as early as possible; and,

  2. that in the event of such a reduction or closure, the Sponsoring Institution must either allow residents already in the program to complete their education or assist the residents in enrolling in an ACGME-accredited program in which they can continue their education.

This could be open to much interpretation. What exactly is their obligation to the resident?

basically, the rule requires the hospital to have a written policy that if they cancel the residency program, they must either let residents under contract finish there or, if that is impossible (e.g. if the hospital itself shuts down not just the residency program), then they must help the residents get into another accredited program where they can finish. The actual details of how that is all carried out are presumably spelled out in the hospital's written policy that this rule requires them to have.

I agree. The information onmyway posted pertaining to residency closure would not alleviate my fears. It seems that all the sponsoring institution has to do is try to get the resident enrolled in another ACGME-accredited program.
