Rotations are going very well so far. I have completed the following rotations here at Trumbull: IM, Surgery, and Peds.
Internal Medicine This was my favorite rotation here. I was giving the opportunity to work directly with an excellent attending physician. I learned a great deal about the business of running a clinic as well as treating patients in the hospital. I learned how to write progress notes, orders, SOAP notes, and prescriptions. The staff was friendly and willing to teach. Surgery This was an intense rotation. I learned a great deal about general surgery, trauma, and critical care. I also worked at the outpatient surgical center. Like in internal medicine, I worked mainly with an attending physician who was the director of trauma services. At most 3 students per attending. I was on call some weeks and was required to carry beepers like the surgeons did. I did a lot of the work of a surgical resident. I learned how to staple, suture, and place in Foley catheters. Pediatrics This rotation was good. I also worked with an attending physician who has been in practice as long as I have been alive. I learned how to perform neonatal examinations, treat patients both in hospital and in a clinic, read pediatric EKGs, and perform echo exams. I will be doing most of my core rotations except psychiatry here at Trumbull. I will post more as I complete them. Rochemd |
