Surgery at Trumbull

I finished Surgery at Trumbull just a couple of weeks ago. There were 3 of us total with one attending. We had clinic tuesdays and thursdays and had surgeries mondays wednesdays fridays and saturdays. Saturday is only a half day though (you get out by 12 or 1). The attending tries to lecture on something everyday so pre-read in Schwartz if you can (its also on access medicine) because thats where he gets his info from. We were only on call when the attending was (one week out of every 4 weeks) and he just paged us at home if there is an interesting trauma case in the ER (which there were). You'll learn a whole lot about general surgery and it will help you on step 2 CS and CK (I just took CK today and CS last week).

Between the 3 of us, we scrubbed in about 18-25 cases per week depending how busy the week is. That is a whole lot of experience even for residents. I had a great time, learned alot, and people there are wayyyyyyyy friendlier than NYC.

If anyone needs housing in Warren, just call 330-306-0600 and tell them you're a medical student.

I heard recently that this hospital no longer has obgyn core...has anyone heard the same? I am scheduled there for ob, peds and im. However, the school has not informed me of the change.

OB
I enjoyed this rotation alot. I had the opportunity to assist in many deliveries as well as scrub in and assist on C-sections. I observed several gyno procedures including TVT procedures. You are oncall 24/7 like the attending. You see patients at the clinic and in the hospital. You learn how to identify pathology from Paps using a microscope. You learn how to do OB write ups as well as ultrasounds. It was a wonderful learning experience.

Family Practice
This was my favorite rotation of all time. Not only do I get to treat my own patients, write prescriptions, but I am also learning about the business of medicine and how to set up a practice. My attending is such a wonderful teacher. The best so far. We have daily lectures with the physician. You choose 1 day to be off every week. The clinic is closed on weekends. You only see patients at the clinic.

As far as whether or not there is no longer an OB core I am not sure I personally did not hear anything about that. Good luck with your upcoming rotations.

Repeating what someone asked above, is this site difficult to get into? Sounds like some good rotations.

Does anyone know if these rotations are acceptable for Texas? I found IM, FM, and surgery on ACGME, but through Western Reserve, not Trumbull. And how hard is it to get into? Anyone there now?
