    IM at Caritas

So i'm in the rotation for IM now at Mary Immaculate hospital. there are actually two sites, one at St Johns Hospital and one at MIH. They split you up randomly on the first day. I can tell you few things i've heard about St Johns but you should hear it from someone who is actually there.
As for MIH, there are two floors, 8 interns to follow and 8 students. I have nothing to compare it with, but if i had to rate it, i would say:
Hours: 7/10... Learning: 7... Residents' knowledge:8.... Residents' willingness to teach:9 for some, 3 for a select few.... Nurses and staff: 8 for 4th floor, 6 for the 6/7th Floor, Stay away from a nurse named MARY.... Hospital facilities: 6...
    Overall: 7 out of 10....
For comparison, this is if I think Wyckoff is a 3 and Kings is a 4 from the stories I've heard. This rotation definitely is good compared to others in the area.

Ok, so hours are 7am-4pm. The worst part is to wake up so early. Sign out at St Johns is 3pm. Call used to be just to follow your intern's schedule and each are 24 hour shifts (~8-9 per month). They JUST changed it for my rotation and from now on... so it is now Q7 (two students on call on a select day of a week, ie thursdays for me) and a 24 hour call on one saturday per month. The Director of Medicine and the previous director of med (of BOTH hospitals) are both attendings at MIH. So I think that is a huge benefit to do rotations at MIH instead of St Johns. Of the 4 attendings for students, you can get your LOR from one or both Director of Medicine.
Hands on experience is good. We do blood draws, abgs and arterials, I assisted on 3 paracentesis' this week luckily and have seen LP's but have done them. The intern's usually want to do most procedures so your best chance is if you're on call and something comes up.
Parking, there are two lots and students park for $3 per day which is really inexpensive.
if anything else, just pm me.

Kings is the place to go... I am rotating with captainwada right now and what he says is true.. If youre not prone to being intimidated or lazy, go for kings..you will emerge well ahead of anyone else at any site.

That should not be your only criteria when picking a program.

You misunderstood what I was saying. The IM core rotation at PGHC is an excellent rotation and I believe it was excellent preparation for the IM sub-I that I did at another Maryland hospital and for anyone interested in an IM residency position (in general). I did not mean to imply that the residency program/hospital itself is outstanding...I would not apply there for residency.
