SJEH is in Queens lol.... The Rockaways are considered part of the Borough of Queens, which is one of the 5 Boroughs of New York City... That being said...its bloody far from everything. At the END of the A-train line... 1.5-2 hours depending on where you're coming from. I drove when I had psych there. From the midwood neighborhood (approx in the center of brooklyn) it took me 30-40 mins to get there depending on traffic...

switching peds!

If anyone wants to switch peds with me, that will be great! I have peds starting April 14 in NY and I want it switched to starting March 24 in NY. Whoever is interested, please pm me as soon as possible. Also, if anyone has peds starting elsewhere besides NY on March 24, can you please tell me which state and hospital, may be I can request it from the clinicals.
Thanks very much
I really appreciate it.

Surgery is what you make out of it. Early morning rounds...starts at 6:30. If you're disinterested, you can get out as early as 1:00...but if you want to learn you should stay later until 4-5 at least..scrub in more surgeries and follow more patients. Pretty decent rotation overall. If you're interested in surgery, I recommend looking else where as there is not that much trauma and diversity of cases. Also, it depends on who the chief resident on service is (there are 2 of them). If you have Dr D as your chief, your days will end at 8-9pm and he will teach a lot. He may come off as mean but you have to be thick skinned. With the other chief, learning is more hands on..but you will be able to get out early.

Family Rotation California approved

I talked to PP of the California Board. She said there is an obscure California provision that allows any rotations done in hospitals that are affiliated with your school provided they had at least one ACGME approved residency. So there is not only a Family Residency umbrella rule for Califonia but also an umbrella for Ross affiliated hospitals that have ANY ACGME residency program. She also said she had an old affiliation agreement between Ross and St. John's Ep. from 2001 and that as long as that relationship stood the Family and any other rotation at the hospital would be good. You can phone and verify yourself and post an affirmation . . . or a correction if I got it wrong.

Also has anyone done the Family Rotation here? Can you post about it and anything we should do to prepare and any books you would advise.

St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway

Just wondering if anyone has done IM rotation at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway? Does anyone know what the hours are, or how many on calls? Are there teaching rounds and formal lectures? Any housing advice?
Thanks.
