Clinical core and Electives
Seems like we can do all the clinical rotations at St. John's Episcopal Hospital? Is that right? What about electives? Is it ACGME accredited? Is it accepted by California?
Know any apartments nearby that are not too expensive? Need info. Thanks. Last edited by katie30; 05-04-2007 at 03:46 PM. |

The only ACGME program that St. John's Episcopal sponsors is Internal Medicine. Peds and psych are "ACGME" through affiliation with other programs. Regardless, the above rotations (IM, Peds, Psych) are accepted by California.
California requires 54 weeks of rotations (including all cores) to be done at approved rotations. Therefore you can do electives at St. John's Episcopal provided that all your cores plus six weeks of elective are done at approved programs. California also accepts any rotation done at a hospital where an ACGME Family Medicine residency exists. As always, it's up to you to check with the California Medical Board.

st. john's episcopal
Thanks for the info! How do I research what the requirements of California regarding residency? I tried to go on the website but I don't know where to find it.
So you mean to say, we can do all the core rotations plus electives in St. John's Hospital? If so this is nice. |

If you want to be licensed in California, you cannot do Ob/Gyn, Surgery, or Family Medicine at St. John's Episcopal Hospital. These are all AOA (D.O.) programs at SJEH. If the family medicine residency was an ACGME residency then it would be possible to do anything at that hospital for CA.
The other thing I forgot to mention earlier is that any rotation done at an institution that has a MAJOR affiliation with a LCME-accredited medical school is also good for California. You can check affiliation status of hospitals on the FREIDA website. You need to call the California Medical Board and speak to someone who handles licensure for international medical graduates. Or, you can tediously go through the CA Business and Professions Code which is also on the California Medical Board website.

Thank you awdc for the info. This helps me a lot. Now I get the picture. Are you from CA? Do you mind if I ask you where you did your core rotations and electives. Thanks in advance.
