OB at Queens

Just finished my ob/gyn rotation and feel pretty good about what i saw and did there. There is a good mixture of ob/gyn/clinic but wish there was more to do in clinic other than stand around and watch. If you can't draw blood or don't know how to you will be an expert by the time this rotation is through. The lectures are decent and somewhat interactive. The head guy is pretty harsh at times and I can't figure out why but I'd like to think that he has our best interest in mind. You really get hands on experience if you want it, just show some interest, otherwise you can stand on the side and wait for them to ask you for a blood-draw or an IV. Be prepared to hustle though, neither the residents nor your co-students want to see you slacking off, there seems to always be 1 or 2 of those in every rotation. The residents are cool with the students for the most part, although there is 1 that should really not be practicing medicine and should apply for a prison guard position at Guantanamo Bay, happy to never see her again. That is ok though, the rest are great to work with and are eager to teach. Oh and OMG there is one intern that must have been a model before going into medicine , I would have done the rotation over again to see him for another 6 wks. The funny part is that he has no clue about how hot he is because his personality makes him that much more pleasant to be around, trust me ya'll you will enjoy working with him, his patients were always raving about him when he left the room. The attendings are pretty good too you can ask them anything, they won't make you feel stupid. There is an oral and a shelf-type exam at the end, about 6 or 7 calls total including weekend, plenty of OR time in ob and gyn. Day start at 6:30am for ob and gyn and ends around 4:30-5:00pm. Students round on the post-partum day 1 patients and all gyn patients. All in all one of the better rotations for Ross clinicals, you get what you put into it.
Have fun!
and tell Dr. Eric to keep smiling

I'm afraid I have to agree........this residency program has some of the moodiest and unfriendly residents that i have ever encountered. I'm not sure if they just don't like their job.....or if they are miserable by nature. Anyways, the clincal aspect is pretty good...get to deliver lots of babies, etc. Just be prepared to deal with some people who don't even like themselves! Especially one in particular.....you will know exactly who I mean if you've done this rotation. Very self-absorbed, belittles students, and basically thinks she is super-hot. Ah! What can you say?! Good luck all.

Psych at Queens: Is it ACGME approved? I know it has OB and IM programs, but Psych isn't specifically mentioned at Queens. It doesn't have a FP either to make it an umbrella

Whats the deal with parking here? Park on the street or in a garage - if so, how much is it?

Psych at Queens is ACGME due to affiliation with Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Mt. Sinai students do their core here. I actually rotated with 6 of them.

Are students still rotating here? This is one of the hospitals that SGU bought exclusive rights to (cores/electives).

SGU exclusive rights

I e-mailed the dean about this.....apparently, I do not think the SGU exclusive rights will not take place in the near future. Also, the clinical dean at Ross e-mailed me and told me that Ross is expected to add obgyn at King's County in August 2008 (another hospital that SGU has exclusive rights to). Hence, I am not sure when SGU will actually have the hospitals to themselves. My guess is that the hospitals are not happy about what SGU did as it means fewer amount of students.....SGU really does not have a lot of students relatively.

SGU purchased the exclusive contract with the NY City hospitals to prepared for their larger class sizes. Remember SGU recently added the new classes starting in England. I doubt SGU wants to pay for the NY clinical spots until they need them.
