For those of us who have only experienced Wyckoff with "64" Ross seats, and need peds or ob, this increase to "112" is a godsend... I personally don't care where the heck I do peds, as I have no interest in that specialty. I just want to get it over with now that I got it scheduled... I'm "rejoicing" lol.....

" I guess this signals that SGU is planning to dramatically increase their student population. I think that Ross is trying to do the same thing as well. Eventually, I guess it will be survival of the fittest, i.e. the school that is able to increase its student population, and gain more and more exclusive contracts will win. It would be nice if it was just Ross, SGU, AUC and SABA in New York, but there are so many other schools as well. If I was in charge, I would recommend solidifying such a deal with Wyckoff and the Caritas hospitals for 5-10 years, just to stabilize the clinical spot scenario, and to inhibit the growth of small medical schools. SGU must know that their deal will slightly decrease the rapid increase in student body of other caribbean medical schools. " Last edited by DrunkenDancer; 01-14-2008 at 07:48 PM. |

Why on earth would you do a sub-I at wykoff????? dont do it at wykoff. it's a weak program in itself. i'm assuming you're thinking about going into family.. if so, do some research and do it at an unopposed program that you may apply for residency.. that really is a big part about doing a sub-I... trust me it works if you are a hard worker... doing it at wykoff you are basically wasting your opportunity for an interview away... best o luck. I haven't done surgery at wyckoff, but I know people who did, are you tryin' to be a surgeon? If not, then surgery at wyckoff may in fact be ideal for you. I did however to ObGyn at Wyckoff. What do ya wanna know about ObGyn there?

Hours were 6:15 till around 4 or so. 1 week each in O.R., Obstetrics clinic, Labor and Delivery, and sono. 2 weeks in gyn clinic. You will be on call only RARELY, I was on call only 3 times in the whole rotation (LOL used to q3 or q4 at Kings County), I think it depends on how many students there are in the rotation (a quite unreasonable 40 when I did it). Yes you will deliver babies when you are on L&D and on call. You can pretty much do was much as you want (either watch, gown up and help, or even do the whole delivery yourself with the midwife or resident standing by your side helping). As for OR time, a student is required to scrub into every procedure (mostly D&Cs, Cesarians, and TAHBSOs) but there is an occasional emergency ruptured cyst or ectopic which are pretty cool. All in all, it was an OK experience, the surgery part was cool, but I expected to like that part. Gyn clinic was the worst, bajingos n paps all day long...Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..

FM at Wyckoff
A couple of Qs about Family Medicine at Wyckoff:
1. Do you get adequate exposure to the different aspects of family med (IM, OB/GYN, PEDS) in this rotation? 2. Do you get adequate interaction with attendings to be able to get a letter of recommendation? Last edited by DrX; 02-08-2008 at 09:16 PM. |
