How does memorizing the presentation make it better? I would think the variation and depth of the pathology presented would make it better. I served my time at wyckoff, while a lot of their stuff was poop, their grand rounds were OK. The grand rounds at larger university hospitals are better than most community hospitals, but that is to be expected (btw I have seen PPT used there also)

I've known students who rotated through Wyckoff IM, and it seems to be pretty light in terms of hours per week, and also at Wyckoff you are not allowed to write in the charts. This can be a problem as you might not learn how to do good progress notes, but at least you have alot of time to study. Basically, whatever you put in is what you get out, if you aren't using your head to figure out what is happening with a patient then you aren't learning. I.e. a student who is motivated at Wyckoff would be reading charts and learning on their own. I have heard that some IM rotations like King IM you work so much that you don't have alot of time to read, so you have to budget your time well. If you are waiting to be spoon-fed then you won't do well, but if you are proactive then you will do well. Some of the IM electives at Wyckoff are really good. I haven't heard anything about JP IM core.

PPTs were basically read verbatim during surg grand rounds at Wyckoff. Journal club wasn't impressive at all. The residents at a Uni hospital where I attended grand rounds presented all patient information/ background on pathology, etc all verbatim. Just seemed better organized and just showed that the residents knew what they were talking about.

Sorry I misunderstood your orig. post. OK, I can agree with that. Some residents just read the ppt.

HI,
Is Peds at Wyckoff Greenbook, how about Family Medicine?
I know this info may be somewhere in other posts, but it is confusing to read previous post because some information is outdated. So please respond if you know something about these.

Another question... does anyone know how rotations rotate? I mean if pediatrics is in its 4th week right now at Wyckoff, will a new batch of students come in after 2 more weeks? and this cycle of 6weeks continues? Just trying to organise my rotations. Thanks.

Search the ACGME site:

ACGME Accredited Program and Institutional Listing - Public Access

Click the Accredited programs link under the search column. On the next page:

Select FM and NY to look up Wyckoff.

Select Peds & NY and look up Brooklyn Hospital.

You could also have done a search also, the information is fairly recent.

Wyckoff doesn't have its own Peds residency, hence why you have to look up the sponsoring institution that I listed. You will see Wyckoff listed as a participating institution.
