anyone have any suggestions on which surgery electives to take, whether it be at wyckoff or any other hospital in NY, doesn't really matter. I'm not interested in surgery at all and have been holding this elective off for some time now... any suggestions on any "Light" surgery electives would be appreciated. thanks

Nah, he doesn't do those rounds anymore. Although the threat is always there. By the way we now must have a "portfolio."

If you want to experience a good/strong/solid medicine rotation, I wouldn't do it here. I don't like to bash wyckoff, because as silly as it sounds, I like it here.. the nurses are *****, but for the most part, I found the attending and residents to be pretty nice and laid back but that's the only problem with this rotation, it's too laid back... not much teaching, over crowded by too many students and really no guidance... if you do it here, you're going to have to do alot of self teaching and pleading to be taught.. but again, the attendings and residents are nice.. most of them don't like to be bothered though.. good luck!

question regarding IM rotation at Wykchoff

Questions regarding Wykoff heights IM core rotation.
Hi,
I'm planning to start my IM core rotation at WyKoff heights around October / November 2007.And this will be my first rotation in 6th semester. What about the IM rotation here?.Please share your suggestions.

1. Is it a green book rotation?.
2.Is it worth to do an IM rotation there?.How is the teaching method, any difficulties, etc.Can we learn alot from the rotation?
3. At what time the rotation will start and what time we can leave from the hospital?
4.Do we need to go on weekends too?.Do we have on calls?
5.If anyone currently doing their rotation at Wychoff, can you tell me where should I find an apartment in or around wychoff?.I need some details about the rent, transportation and which places are safe to live?
6.What is the dress code for the rotation ? ( I'm a female)
7.What is the text book that I need to buy for IM rotation?
8.What about the grading system?.
9.Other than a stethescope what else I have to buy?
10.Also give any other useful information regarding the rotation.

Thanks.

sai2007, if you search some of the earlier posts, you'll find all your answers ...IM isn't the best of rotations at Wyckoff but it's doable...like adipose said you have to really bug ure intern/resident to do some teaching...noon conference is more for the residents but students have to go...
surgery -- it's not great but i learned more in surgery than i did in IM...just don't annoy the residents and they are ok...a couple are really good...
by the way, the FP rotation leaves ALOT to be desired...
and has anyone done in Emerg Med at wyckoff? care to comment?

Pretty good rotation as well. You get to do a lot of procedures and good teaching by most of the attendings. One of which is a Ross grad!

Although dont do the elective rotation if you plan on going into EM for a residency.
