I don't know about either rotation per se, but what I do know is that you should choose wisely because if you do IM at another hospital, you are precluded from doing your rotations at JP. Be careful!

jackson park is booked solid until close to April, so most likely, the decision will be made for you once you get to clinicals. unless you want to wait 8 months doing other cores before internal medicine.

ya i know about the IM constraints at JPH, but i have a choice, so i wanted to know where i should go. I hear the IM rotation at JPH is not that great, is that true? i dont want a laid back rotation, i want one that will push me cause IM is the most important rotation. so according to that which is better? wyckoff or JPH? your help will be appreciated.

it's tough to answer, because nobody has done both. so all you're going to get is opinions on each that will be hard to compare. But I'd be wary of someone saying "Hospital X rotation is much better than Hospital Y", because when it comes down to it, no person does the same rotation at 2 different hospitals.

what's more important in my opinion is to do internal medicine EARLY in your 3rd year. Don't wait.

If you want to prepare for Step 2 CS then do Wyckoff IM. THats all you will likely learn.

Wyckoff surgery

If someone could please answer how Surgery at Wyckoff is now listed on the latest released list from Ross as an MD rotation. If so what has happened in the last 6 months to make it an MD rotation. It is not listed under any oter Hospital or Medical school on the ACGME site. Is Ross trying to tell us something that isn't totally true? Will this rotation be accepted in states like Pa., NJ ,Ca. etc.

Anyone who has done Surgery at Whykoff and has applied for licensure in these states please reply.

Also. is it one of the bettter surgery rotations that Ross has at affiliated hospitals. Please let me know the better surgery rotations in NYC.

Finally if anyone can tell me amy good MD/ACGME electives they have taken at Whykoff it would be appreciated.

Thanks

surgery rotations

Singer,
I did surgery at CMC which I thought was pretty good. See my review about it in the clinical thread. Also , I have friends that did surgery at Lutheran and said it was good. Wyckoff is not regarded as a good surgery rotation generally. It isnt a trauma center so you lose out on that exposure. CMC and lutheran are trauma centers.

Some good electives at Wyckoff include...cardiology (all EKGs, no patient interaction), radiology (heard it's improved from years ago when I did it), pediatrics (core and electives are good)...can't think of anymore at the moment.

Wyckoff is ACGME/MD rotation

Just found out that the Surgery rotation at Wyckoff is ACGME. It is listed under Bronx Lebanon Hospital on the ACGME site. It states that they have 2 tird year and 3 4th year residents at Wyckoff. This answers my question and hopefully will help anyone else who is doing a surgery rotation at Wyckoff. As of 2004 Wyckoff surgery had been a DO rotation. It is listed on the ACGME as other particpating institution, not as sponsor or major participating instiution. Does anyone who has looked into state licencing requirements know if any states require the rotation to be the sponsor or major participating?
