St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, New York

Peds: St.Barnabas, Bronx, NY: excellent rotation. 2 ross students per rotation, others include DO and Cornell students. 3 weeks inpatient including NICU and 2 weeks outpatient, 1 week Peds-ER. One of the best rotations that I had. Teaching was optimal including multiple daily lectures and one-on one contact with the residents/chief residents. Call is Q7 and only till 10pm for inpatient only. 3 free meals.day.

St.Barnabas in Bronx- Surgery

Surgery at St.Barnabas is pretty tough, but good. You get ample OR time , teaching time and rounds. Although the call schedule can be rough, with several 24hrs shifts. You will see everything here. The residents and attending encourage your active participation in patient workup and care. You get a lot out of the rotation.

Question tips for surg at St.Barnabas????

Hey Mega,
I start Surg. at St. Barnabas in a few days and wondered if you had any words of wisdom - you know - the things you wish someone had told you before you started??? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

anyone interested in peds, should defintly try to do a core here. It was very well done, but long long hours. I don't want to go into peds, but i did learn alot for my step 2. The staff is amazing. you'll be with many students from the DO com
's and Cornell.

yup yup

days are 9-5 , but when your in inpatient floors, they start 6:30am to 6:00pm, and thats for two weeks. you have two 24 hr calls, and three peds ER calls that last till 11pm.
Its a tramau center..you see lots of stuff...everything. Hardcore rotation, but worth it cause you learn alot and very helpful on the step2 and better yet, if peds is what you want to do in the long run.
