    Lightbulb Concerning Oradea University

I will be joining the english program of general medicine at Oradea in 2010/2011..
not much has been said about dormitories in the university..
I'd like to know whether hostels are available to non-EU students within the university itself, if so, how much do they charge per month?

according to the university website, yes. but you would have to go and register personally. since a 2bedroom apt goes for 200 with most utilities included, not sure dorms will be any cheaper. if you only have 1 roommate then perhaps a little but i think they do not have private kitchen based on what I saw elsewhere

    Hello,
main campus is far from medical school (which is near center)

I really advise not to take a dorm room (don't even know if is't possible , probably given to romanian citizens on social criterias which is normal)
Best is to share costs. Don't specially look for a central flat , because tram is stopping just in front of faculty , every 5 minutes , all the day and is very cheap (5€/month and free for students <26yo most of the year)
some cheap places like decebal , cantemir , rogerius can be a way to find a confortable 2 bedrooms flat (3 camere , "decomandat" = with separate entry for each bedroom) for 200€ to share , or 150€ for standard confort , so yes you can have for less than 100€ per person including charges a month

I am a student at oradea. non-eu. the truth of the mater is that it is theoretically posibble to get a room at the hostel.however, there is currently no non-romanian student staying at the hostels. atleast not from the medical faculty. rumour has it that the living conditions are not good in the hostel and upto 5 people may share a room. there are currently 2 hostels under construction and after their completion living in the hostel may be a more viable option.

for foreighn students flatting is the norm.a furnished studio apartment may cost from eu 80.a two roomed apartment with a kitchen and bathroom should range from eu 150. these are bargain prices with about 20 minuites tram-ride to the main faculty.

any comment about buying an apartment? I've heard that in cases it's possible to open negotiations as low as 50-70% of the listed price e.g. an apartment listed at 40,000 euros you could theoretically make a first offer at around 25k. It seems like with 2br renting at 150 Euros that a fair price to buy an apartment would be 20-25k euros (which would give gross return for 12 months at 7-9%) but I am not too familiar with the real estate market. I guess with RON deposits still paying high interest rates a fair price would be even slightly less but I never see apartments listed for this.. Frankly, I'm a bit suprised each time I see a listing at 50-60k euros but the same place renting for 200-250 a month, as you could do better just putting your money in a bank.. of course this doesn't consider any price appreciation, but still.. with many cities building new and more modern apartments and the older blocks falling out of favor, it seems ridiculous for the price (to buy) to be so high

So 140, that is really really good.. does that include utilities? but wow 150 eur by the faculty is awesome does that include utilities also or rent only? Is this also 2br? 3 mo is no problem, I was thinking to sign a long term contract to negotiate a lower rate actually

cheap housing near the faculty gets occupied really fast and by october they are all gone.the rent is minus utilities.utilities cost me about eu 70 living alone.they should go down in summer months wen there are no more heating bills.

Including utilities+whatever u want from landlord yesterday morning, i found another rental for my friend in here, 100 eu per month, 1 room, utilities incl. near my apartment. prices vary between 100-450 eu depends on how many rooms-quality-location. for 150-200, u can get something decent which is nt in center but near a tramstation(tramways take u wherever u want in oradea ) . Magic is to buy newspaper "JOURNAL BIHOREAN" find the part "inchirieri imobilie", take a pen, circle the deals which u like, take ur phone, start calling
About the one near faculty, i dont think its still available though, but 3 months in advance is a lil futile, cuz if u have some problems, u will have no chance to retreat as ur money will be gone
    ------------------------------------
some romanian phrases which u might need in conversations with landlords(i made them myself, not perfect but still they will understand what u say )
sunt suna pentru chirie (i called u for rent)
    asta valabil?(is it available?)
ce locatsia apartamentul tau?(whats the location of ur apartment)
vorbeshte engleza?(DO U SPEAK ENGLISH?? ask this first )
shtiu romaneste nimic (i dont know romanian)
cant remember more, but feel free to ask if u need any help
