Re: The IMG Friendly Hospitals

I'm a little confused about this list. I believe this is a list of hospitals that take IMGs into their residency programs. I don't think it is a list of programs that accept international medical students into their clinical rotations.

I didn't compose the list so I'm not certain about this. I was under a different impression, but I could be wrong. If anyone else is familiar with this list, please give us your opinion.

I can tell you that now that I'm looking at the list in more detail, I have personally noticed some deficiencies in either case. Well, I guess that the list can use some input from all of us, and we can make it apply to whichever will benefit us more...or we can use two separate lists for clinicals and for residencies? Either way, we are also working on a residency review area for this website and that will hopefully further shed some light on the subject. Good luck.

things change

just because a hospital never took an IMG before, doesnt mean they wont. I went to Ross, am a US citizen and was told i was the very first IMG they had ever interviewed at the place I matched. and it showed. lots of confusion on their part about ECFMG and CSA stuff. I was told off the record, they were branching out into US born IMGs because of a fear of getting troublemakers in the scramble after 9-11. makes sense i guess, though it is definetly generalising. the place i did rotations at right after 9-11 had 2 people tossed because of statements made. probably more for their safety then for anyone elses. they were close to getting lynched.

Thanks PKMD for providing this list which seems as though it can be very helpful to our users.
It appears the list came from csa-notes.com.

caveat

A big caveat to above post- the "minimal requirements" (i.e. a USMLE score of 80) is NOT rigid...at all! Dont' be dissuaded if you dont meet the score. its there to "keep out the riff-raff" if you will but often isn't rigid.
Great post.
