Re: residency timeline
1) The deadline for ERAS in december applies only to when you have to have your ERAS application in by. It has no bearing on when your rotations have to be finished or when you take step II CS. You have to have passed all the steps by the rank order deadline which is usually around Feb 23 or you will be withdrawn from the match.

The ERAS application is an online 15 page application that you submit to all the rresidency programs you are intersted in. the application includes everything you have done in med school, extracurriculars, research, personal statements, CV, etc. The first opportunity to submit it is in early September. This also costs mucho dinero depending on how many programs you apply to. After you submit it, you sit back and wait for programs to contact you for an interview.
3) it does not matter when you register with the NRMP website, just as long as you do it before the deadline. This website only comes into play after you have interviewed at the programs of your choice and its time to rank them. This is the match website, where you submit your rank order list. On match day, this is the site where you find out if you matched and a couple of days later its where you find out where you matched. Hope this helps
