dermatology / radiology ? any chances for a mere IMG ?

i am an fmg from india. its been my dream to get into either dermatology or radiology.

i just have an MBBS degree and no US experience.

however , i do have a green card and should be able to apply for citizenship this june..would this increase my chances of finding a spot?

what else can one do to increase their chances? is there any hope at all?

i got 98/243 on step 1 but the out look remains dismal still. are there any chances at all?

any advice or suggestion would be really appreciated.

folks did well in rads this year. my pal is going to brigham and women's and another going to yale. And a lot more of course. Derm much harder but i know a couple of sgu folks in residency now in derm. they had to go through the back door, tkae extra year etc.

you might.

You can get into derm by going through path first and then doing derm i have heard. That way you can even examine your biopsies and make twice the money. You can also get into better residencies that way most likely, although it will take longer.

Or just go for derm altogether, but take lots of rotations in it to show your interest and get many good LOR's from key connections, apply to every program and see if they take you. Those are good board scores. It shouldn't be a big problem.

I'm sure you can do radiology--apply for it plus many prelim years for match. if you just get a prelim the next year, then apply next year for rads again. with those scores you can't go wrong. also get us clinical experience, that is the key.

Good luck.
