Going from a Prelim to Categorical surgery residency
I'd appreciate some advice on this matter. I've heard there are basically 2 ways to go from a prelim surgery position to a categorical surgery position:
1. Transfer into an open PGY2 spot at the same or different program 2. Redo your PGY1, but this time as a categorical resident at the same or different program My question is how likely is it that the program you're already doing your prelim PGY1 to let you redo your PGY1 but this time as a categorical resident? Are community or academic programs more likely to allow you to switch into a categorical residency by redoing your PGY1 year? |
