    Match 2018

    Advertisements

Pardon me for sounding redundant if there has been a previous post regarding match-like information. If there is, please reroute me to a link that is both advising and accurate. I am looking to apply for the 2018th match and I am currently doing core # 3 starting in Jan, so tentatively, I should be done all of my cores by Dec 2017. What I am asking here is, will I finish on time to apply for the match since documents are needed by September 2017 and I suppose Step 2 can be written before the end of 2017?

My electives will still need to get done and I was wondering if that affects my chances of being granted an interview. I may sound naive here, but I assumed that cores are sufficient enough for step 2?

Please advise and if someone can give me an understanding of what needs to be submitted around what time, that would be awesome. I am really walking in the dark here and my clinical department doesn't provide me with thorough details, so I need to sort things out on my own. It would be devastating to waste a year because of my ignorance.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi there...I am medstudent in 3rd year, applying for the 2018 Match as well. From what I know, it is best to have your Step 2 CK scores available by Sep 2017 when you apply. But for a real good overview of all documents and requirements you need and the timeline to have them all completed, your best bet is to speak to your medical school's advisor. If you do not have an adviser in your medical school then I will highly recommend that you get help from some private consultancy company to guide in the right way. Good luck!

I agree. Having your STEP 2 CK scores available in advance to your interviews is especially needed. Also taking CS early on is helpful. I would also look into research/volunteer as an extra activity to boost your CV. Also consider getting your LoR very early on (takes a while to write them) and also in the field you are looking to practice in.
Lastly but likely most important, I would also seek advice from your school adviser to get you on a specific timeline for dates and submissions (when to submit ERAS, where to apply, etc...).

I hope that helps a little,
