psych doesn't appear to be the backup it used to be...it has surprisingly gotten a little more competitive, with much less programs to pick from than FM and IM, and more DOs applying for and securing positions along with better qualified IMGs (ie. passing all steps first attempt with above-average-for-psych [205-210] scores). multiple failures are probably forgivable for AMGs). this is outside of the 4% or so US MDs who match every year at their top choices. now that Match is all-in, I think the OP will have to spend some time researching FM/IM/PMR/psych programs that are not participating in the Match or anticipate the SOAP . FREIDA might be a good resource for the former.
