IS FMG BOUND BY NRMP AGREEMENT?

Please let me know how can a FMG take up residency out of match? Because NRMP web site considers it a violation. Can hospital sign us up independently before Feb 2005? Because hospitals are also bound by NRMP agreement. Can we get out of NRMP agreement then without any problems?

Yes

People sign outside the match all the time. Some programs don't even participate in the match. The NRMP was trying to make it so programs were either all in or all out. Meaning if you participate in the match, you cannot sign any spot outside of the match. In the past programs would sign a few pre-match spots and then go through the match for the rest. There is a suit against NRMP because of their monopolistic tactics, and the rule had been on hold. Maybe it went through. G

Dunno

I'm not sure where you can get more info. I know people who are participating in the match and pull out to sign pre-match offers. It happens all the time. Hopefully someone will come along and share. G

pre-match contracts

The all in/out rule is indefinitely on hold - many programs have concerns how this would change the world as we know it. Programs are free to sign IMG's and US DO's outside the match before the match deadline in Feb. I've only dealt with this from the PD, but I believe someone with a contract just does not submit a rank list - perhaps there is a formal procedure to withdraw, but the effect is the same.

THANK YOU

Thank you Dr.Jon for your reply. It certainly helps.
What I can understand is, hospitals can take IMG before mid Feb and we can sign up with them also. Can Program Director do that if he is impressed with you, where ever you are doing your electives? How early he can do that?

Hi

If you are an IMG or US DO, you can withdraw from the match before the deadline (very easy to do, through website). Then you are free to accept any offer from a program. But make sure you see and sign a contract or some formal agreement before doing that, don't take someone's word, people have been burned in the past.

good luck

Match

Thank you for the reply. But what is the dead line?? Is it before 23rd February or before the rank order list submission. When hospitals are also bound by it then how can they take us before. Can the Director of program do it ? I am a US citizen but a caribbean student.

pre-matching

In addition to your questions I would also like to know HOW YOU KNOW which programs are usually agreable to a pre-match situation? Is it that you simply ask them during an interview whether or not they will consider this option? Or is there a list somewhere of programs that have been known to sign one or two each year outside of the match? Whats the best way to approach the whole issue of PREMATCHING??? Isnt it better to work towards it, than to wait and hope that someone will pop the question during an interview, if possible?
