    LORs

    Advertisements

I did a stupid thing and waived all my LORs. Hence, have none in hand except one. What is the best way to go about getting them in hand. Can I ask the letter writers to send me a signed copy?
    Please advice.

Why is that stupid? All my letters were waived. Just remember to give that LOR form for eras and have them send it when it's time (around july-august). You're really early in the game so there's plenty of time.

i think the OP means for the post scramble.. as in for the 2010 match he/she waived all the rights to the LORs now that he/she didn't match, he/she doesn't have any LORs to send to hospitals that still have open positions.

No, you did the right thing by waiving your letters. I had a PD tell me that this is what they look for because it shows that you trust the people that wrote your letters. What I did, I asked my letter writers for a separate copy for my own records just in case I had to scramble. None of them had a problem with it, some automatically sent me a copy anyway when they mailed it out to ERAS.

thanks for all the replies. Sorry, i was not too clear in my post. RussianJoo, u got it right! Im in that mess. That is, no LORs for the postscramble.
Scientific- phew!!! So relieved to read ur post. I thought it was so over for me. Is it true that if I get a copy of the LOR in my hands, I wont be able to use them again, in sept if i apply again?

you probably will be able to use them again in sept. technically you're not even supposed to see those LORs however, many attendings do send you a copy so really i don't think it's that big of a deal.

what I would do when emailing those attendings that wrote you LORs is ask them to write you a copy that you didn't waive the right to see, most of the time they'll just the same LOR however, this way you won't be breaking any ethical laws because you specifically asked for a new LOR that you didn't waive a right to see, which LOR the attending uses is up to them.

    good luck.
