not always...

my family-friend at AUC didn't get the IM spot he wanted (got his 3rd choice) and he score 99 on both steps. i believe it's all relative to location, field, scores, LOR's, hook-ups, etc.

that what we are saying. what was your friend's 1st and 2nd choice? with 99's, i highly doubt he was applying to lower end IM programs. im sure if he ranked wyckoff IM #1, he would have gotten his #1 choice.

exactly, if he had ranked some small, community program, he would probably got his number 1....

so there are a variety of all types of programs....there are higher end FP programs, while some are lower end....same goes for peds, pysch, im

a pysch program at Mayo is probably more competitive than the psych program at a detorit community hospital....

it is all relative, and additionally, LORs, personal statements, being a USA citizen all make a difference

If you fail at AUC, SGU, or Ross why not transfer to SMU, if you fail at SMU, why not try another SMU.

well aren't the other specialties more competitive because they have less spots available. Of course f.p and i.m are easier to get into because there are more spots available.

His first was Dallas Southwestern, 2nd I think Baylor, 3rd Dallas Presby, 4th Dallas Methodist which offered prematched, and he declined hoping to get Southwestern since he worked there previously as a PA.

I know he eventually wanted to do a Hem/Onc fellowship also.

and yes, I was also agreeing of how match depends on so many factors.

Well either way it was a good match, since texas in general is a tougher location to match

great programs all around. i think UT southwestern is a top ten IM program in the states.

i got a rejection email from UT southwestern within minutes of applying ....but they did mention that they thoroughly reviewed my application and gave it careful consideration.... rrriiiggghhhtttt

no, its ok. i ended up getting my ultimate #1 program that i would have ranked higher than harvard, ut southwestern, duke, emory, ucla, etc etc.

i get to stay home and near my family..... plus its a pretty solid program in itself...... but family is first for me.
