Because of the potential fraud involved with prescriptions, I will not advise anyone to post too much detail about how to write a prescription, but I will write some of the generalities for you.
(From First Aid for the Wards)
Make sure your presciption has all of the following:
- 1. Time and date
2. Generic Drug name
3. Dose
4. Route of Delivery (PO, IV, IM, SQ)
5. Frequency
6. Signature; include your printed name, title (M.D.), and pager #
You should probably get a book like First Aid for the Wards to help you out. A definite must-have is Maxwell Quick Medical Reference, which is a small pocket sized reference on just about everything you need...its pretty cheap (less than $10 I think). You can find both of these in our Bookstore or just check Amazon or somewhere similar.
Once you write the first few, its becomes automatic. Hope this helps.

One more thing to add to Doc is that prescriptions require physician numbers more than pager number.

you give em taht and you will never rest again! and always remember, if you have to call a patient at home, with the advent of caller ID, never use your home or cell number. we had a guy do that, and his patient would call him at home wit the stupidest questions at all hours of the day and night! he had to change his number! as for your questions, first aid is good,a s is scutmonkey
511 points from the date you'll see this guy should be welllll intero residency by now.
