I wonder, what would have happened if WWII was fought with today's current media outlets covering the war?

The media cannot see what the Germans are doing or enter any German occupied territory.

I don't know why it would be any different from any other war.
Probably something like what the NYT and others said in the Civil War: Lincoln is a baffoon, the war in unwinnable from the North, we will be in this forever. Reading articles from the Civil War has an uncanny resemblance to modern journalism on Iraq.

For a good read: "Storm Over the Land" by Carl Sandberg (i think that was the author). It's a great Civil War read. Even though it was written in the late 20's, you will think it was written today.

Have you read any books by James Webb? I know you would like him. He was the Sec'y of the Navy, a Marine in Vietnam, a historian and journalist, all around smart guy.
He wrote Fields of Fire, Born Fighting, and several other good books. Next time you go to Barnes and Nobles, look it up. They keep him buried though (too un-pc) so you'll have to dig.

I agree with your high esteem for him. Yes, I have read him and I've heard him speak. No question that he can walk his talk.

Where did you hear him speak? I've heard him on the radio, but I would love to go to a banquet or something he is at if he does speaking tours.

I have a life-long friend who is a reporter for the Washington Post who invited me to attend a National Press Club function where Webb spoke.

I've read Born Fighting, Something to Die For and Fields of Fire. I know he has other books out, but I haven't had the time to catch up on my recreational reading.

I heard a rumor that he was considering running for office. Have you heard anything?

Rumor has it he's considering running on the Democratic ticket in Virginia! I haven't talked with my friend in a while, guess I'll call him tonight to see what he knows. As for being in the loop...I'm so far out of it now that I get excited when I see someone famous driving next to me on a freeway.
