Very important
Actually I think this is very important. The most important service we perform on this forum IMHO is allowing people to make an informed decision. There is a lot of ** floating around here.
Do you want to be the chump who thinks he is going to "A private English med school with a >90% pass rate on the USMLE, hospital experience from the first semester and affiliation with a major English University"??? When you get there you find out that the school is chartered in Senegal, rents space above Pizza Hut, and lost its affiliation with a "major English university" Sorry, med school is a $100-200K venture. It is also a very important chapter in a persons life. If such blatant and misleading posts are there, then people need to stir the pot. i feel that very strongly. Sorry if you disagree. G

not immature
It is not immature bickering at all.
It is a way of showing all sides of information, or the lack of it. It's better to question than to bury all the questions and only emphasize the good points. And even those good points are without proof. |

...
If nothing else the points raised will allow a prospective student to make a more informed choice. As evident from recent events the consequences of showing up and not getting what you expect can lead to disciplinary action (which in itself is mindboggling).

bickering
Beaker is right this is just crazy.
We should all stick together and not attack each other. Who knows in one of thoes quirks of life we may end up in a hospital working with some one from this forum. I agree that all aspect should be asked on the forum but to be honest if I am going to spend 100,00 on an education I personally would not take what is said on this forum as the word of wisdom. Anyone who is going into this venture should check everything out. I did not take the sc word at face value. I called the state boards called the dept of education USMLE WHO and found a number of web sites with IMG information. I found information I didnt even know to ask. I did go to a med school before sc and I did not check anything before entering I was just glad to get in. After 2 weeks I found that there were no labs and I had to return to the states in the summer and spend an additional 4000.00 for dissection at a US school. I checked out sc to see if they were who they said they were. I found all the info I need and most all that I could be licensed in the states. What I am trying to say is that any school that you are applying to check all the information. Check to see if that school is ban from any state and licensure in certian states. And most of all if you are going to attend any school (on the islands or the UK) Please take the time and make the effort to go there tour the grounds talk to admin students look at the area where you will have to live and know that you can be happy there. Think about it would you buy a home that you have never seen had no idea what it looked like or what kind of neighborhood it was in. You take the bait and get to your new home that you now have to pay for and where you have to spend the days of your life and it does have 3 brms but the 2 baths are out houses the garage is a shed and the pool is a muddy hole in the yard. In a way all the bashing is a little useless because we build a vision of what we expect to see and its on a grand scale, but what see is less than we expect it turns into I have been lied to Just something to think about.

dt the schools in the uk
dt,
The school is in the Uk I should have been a little more clear. I had talked to the schools US admissions office many times. It was then I was told the tution amt. The tution was paid for the year and I left in the last 6 weeks of that year. Meaning that I lost 24,000 in tution (thay had a refund policy after the 1 st week there was no refund) and the expense of living books ect. I might have gone to the islands but I was here in the UK and looked in to some UK med schools (kings London Hospital ect) so I stayed here in the UK. Yes I know what your thinking "Kings what planet are you on" I do have British and US citizenship. Guess what that dont help either Wish I was on the Island now its cold 35 tonight. Happy Halloween |
