I saw that boardgame (Worst Case Scenario) in a Target Christmas before last and I have wanted it ever since!! You'll have to set up a gam ehere on this thread when/if you get it.

That's a splendid idea, islandwife, I think that could actually work! What fun! I know there are a lot of questions about first aid and infectious diseases, too. Perfect! I first played it at a friend's house about 4 or 5 years ago, and I was hooked. Haven't played it since, but I am determined to eventually get the game. I hear there are books that are similar to the board game... *goes to look on Amazon*

I was right! There's the Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, and the Extreme Edition, then they have books for different categories like Dating and Sex, Work, College, Weddings, Golf, Travel, Parenting, and Holidays. They even have a calendar, a set of postcards, greeting cards, and Mad Libs! Wow! I'm one of those overly-prepared people; as an example, here are just a few of the items I have in my purse "just in case":
tissues
permanent marker
water purification tabs
candy bar
safety pins
three mini first-aid kits
super glue
swiss army knife
tweezers
scissors

among other things. I have a large purse. I also love reading preparedness guides. Kinda psycho, I know. But my best friend says she knows whatever she needs at the moment, I'll have it with me! And she's a mom!

We must be twins separated at birth (and about 4 years)! I started carrying my 'preparedness kit' in junior high. My friends call it my little bag of wonders.
My dad and brothers and I hike a lot in the Sierra and Cascades - I always love shopping for the little mountain survival kits and gizmos.. We hike up to 14k, and you have to be a really good packer to get all the 'what if' stuff packed light enough that you can carry it and your food and tent and sleeping bags at that altitude. I can even take warm showers at incredibly high altitudes without overweighing my backpack thanks to my shopping and packing expertise. There's this clear plastic bag with a little shower head you hang on a tree in the sun and it warms really well. It's great - preparing is half the fun for me.

That is almost spooky! My friends call my purse "THE Purse". When I was about 7 years old, we lived in a mobile home that was prone to frequent blackouts, and I remember putting together a "blackout kit" for my brother and myself, with little bits of crayons, little pieces of paper, a small amount of tape, and little stubs of pencil. Not sure how I thought I was going to see all these things in a blackout, but I was proud of myself! I ended up taking it with me when we went on long car trips. Now, I like to go on hikes in the woods behind my house, and since I'm famous for getting lost, even if I'm going for a 20-minute hike I pack enough to make it for a couple days. I think that's the main drive behind my preparedness paranoia: I have a terrible sense of direction! I also love to learn about the edible plants in my area, and have become a pretty decent forager.

Have you heard of the 'trasherians' or whatever they call themselves? They are a far left group making a political/economic statement by only eating what they can find in trashcans.

I think they are trying to say something about wastefullness, but it would be a great research group for immunology or parasitology...

Don't worry Muthea. We've got plenty of Fenbendazole et. al to go around since we seem to attract stray puppies, kittens, and med students
