why? If he's making eye contact with you and knodding his head when you ask some questions why would you hand him a pad? unfortunately its not horribly uncommon for people to present to an ER not knowing how they got there, where they are and not wanting to talk.....and then youre stuck bc you cant release them even if theyre stable bc they might be homeless and you cant admit them bc you have no diagnosis.....unfortunately the pad thing really doesnt work unless you want a patient that is talking to you to write a word that you might not understand

Medicaid patients

With medicaid patients you must get a translator but I have seen homeless patients released who never spoke a word to any of us.

Plus I have so many books on my bookshelf that I haven't read yet, and way more on my wishlist! Ah, the troubles of being a reader.....
I like the Bantry Girl's Lament.

yeh the hospitals provide translators but most are by phone and a huge hassle to deal with so if you can get the history you need from a patient without one its better.....anyways, why would i get a translator when the person was ackowledging me, smiline, nodding their head.....i asked in the beginning if they spoke english, they said no so i asked if they understood me in spanish and they said yes, so why would i just go and get a translator for polish? makes no sense. anyways, i still think its extremely dangerous for these patients not to speak english bc from what i have noticed in the hospital the fewer go-betweens there are in a hospital and the more direct the care, the better the treatment

See - you're cool. I'm not Swedish though.

I've had aligator, snails, rattlesnake, buffalo, rabbit, shark, ostrich, deer, and all other forms of non-traditional meat.
It all either tastes like chicken or beef anyway. Aligator tastes more like the way pork is supposed to taste though.
I love horses but I don't think it would bother me too much to eat some. I figure: it's already dead, butchered, and prepared - what difference does it make whether I eat it or not? May as well not let it go to waste.

yes, that is true, but SOE think of the business side of it- Storm Cat gets 200 to 250 girlfriends a year and $500,000 USD per live standing foal...and all he has to do is *meet* with the ladies once or twice. No child support, no wine, no roses, no diamonds...in fact, they pay him for the dates. The rest of the time he lives out his life of luxury in horsey paradise, with his own posse of security guards, secretaries, agents, bookies, grooms, feeders, attendants, exercise riders, advisors, and managers, all the while pulling in a cool 100mil US per year for having sex.

That is frustrating. Why nod and look attentive if you don't understand?

Have you tried charades?

Um, FLYBOYS by James Bradley and it was FREAKIN AWESOME. Before that, Jumping Fire, the autobiography by Murray Taylor, the world's oldest living active smoke jumper.

It was a track record (may still stand, I am not sure). He shin bucked and my friend sold him to me. I trained him as a barrel racer. He ROCKED. I picked him up for 2 grand and a summer's worth of exercise riding.

I miss that horse.
Yes, my dad and I have racehorses. I have one ready to go to the track any day now. We just broke him out...we clocked him at about 1:58 for a mile in the sloppy mud with a big ol 6 foot tall 160 pound me on him...and he's an arab maiden to boot. So he should kick some butt when he gets down to CA or over to Delaware Park. Or maybe he'll go to Texas, I can't decide, that's why he's still at home lol.

zzzzzzz-SOE, did you fall asleep d/t all the horse talk again lol?
