question for all the guys on VMD:
wud u cheat on ur gf, fiance or wife if you had to be away from her all through your rotations...and why? it wud be interesting to know the thought process of the male gender.

No. Been away from my wife of 21 1/2 years for roughly a year in basic sciences. Have never been unfaithful, and never plan to be. I took my vows seriously when we were married. Don't have much respect for anyone who doesn't.

mdprincess - ur gonna get a different opinion than the 'average' male here - doctors, or most of those aspiring to be, have more moral fiber than the 'average bear'.
also, no-one would say they're setting out to cheat on their significant other (that is pretty petty & spiteful!).

if ur man n u r truly meant to be, it'll work out. communicate with him about the problems of distance before u leave, so u know the mental bond will 'make up' for the lack of the physical bond.

i'm lookin at a minimum of 5.5+years without my gf (no physical contact); we talked a lot, discussed our professional futures, cultural differences (japanese&not a big fan of the US with a crazy brit/FOB), and decided to go for it, no IFs, ANDs or BUTs! we make it work by keeping in touch (used to be every day, now 2x/week, ut will be possibly 1x/week later) by email, IM, or a letter every few months - we hardly call cos of the time difference!

if a man cheats he usually just need the physical release (it's also an emotional release, but a lot of men are insecure in their 'feelings'), is drunk or appreciate the company (nothin better than a warm body at the end of the night - a 'teddy bear' of sorts).

if ur doubting ur ability to 'restrain' yourself, or he himself, then u may need to talk realistically with him & yourself...
good communication can save majority of relationships, so long as both parties put forth the effort (i.e. they WANT to).

as for if i would cheat...
NO! and i would beat the snot out of my true friends if they did so either!

its good to hear that there are guys with morals and values out there. I thought med school, especially carib, med school corrupted all of them. I guess i saw too many, actually 99%, of guys in med school cheating on their girls. So there is still hope. I dont have a man yet but if i do i will send him to hang out with yall' so he can pick up the morals too !

addendum - 'cheating' depends on (can be justified by) relationship level (commitment & seriousness).
i am kinda broken up temporarily from my gf, and she gave me the green light to 'date' others - it's my choice not to do so (no-one i'd bother with so far).
morality/values come into play if i were to play with women's hearts or have one-nighters.

but realism aside & back to the point - yes, such men do exist!
be they off the beaten path or behind the obstacles life has placed, they are few & far between!
when i said i'd beat my true friends if they cheated on their gfs, i actually have 'opened the eyes' of one good friend cos he actually cheated on his gf (who was like a lil sister & i introduced em).
IMO there are more great gals out there then there are great guys, but, then again, i'm VERY picky when it comes to women.
