depends on the hospital.

for the hospital where i'm at, the lab workup is written down in the patient chart. you activate the order. the clerk takes the file and starts the computer work of it. then the lab tech comes up to draw the blood and send it back down to the lab. then just wait for it depending on how important the lab is.
