Thread: What are the benefits of being a doctor?

Besides the obvious, which is to participate in being a healer, what other benefits have you experienced in being a doctor or even medical student? Or that you have witnessed in doctors that you see/meet?

They can be professional benefits, material benefits, psychological benefits, etc. Anything and everything.

i love the fact that i clnicals, even as med students, we get to park in the doctors lot right by the door and we get to eat in the doctors lounge, much better food, just this week i ate off of a ribeye rack, pork roast, beef brisket, fried catfish, fresh omlets and some other things.

Apparently you get good health benefits as well for when you get obese from all those pharm rep lunches and doc lounge feasts.

Get to go to conferences in Los Vagas and other cool places even Europe.

Even if you aren't going to an emergency, cops generally cut you some slack if they know you are a doc. Got hit for 85 in a 55, cop saw my stethascope on the seat, asked if I was a doc, showed him my hosptal ID, he said "Slow down, doc....."

Also, you can treat yourself out of the samples closet. I take Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis several times daily. I'm also able to keep my dad supplied with most of his meds, because medicare doesn't cover much.

It makes your parents grin from ear to ear.

People page you as Dr. at the airport.
