The weight "issue"
Our members don't see this ad.
Recently in the SGU forum someone discussed losing weight and if it was possible to lose weight in Grenada. And some of the responses were really suprising, in the sense that they were unkind and just callous. How many med students and doctors out there believe that overweight people are just lazy? I don't believe that they're lazy, everyone is different. And I can tell you from experience that once you decide to lose weight and change your lifestyle, it is entirely possible. It takes a long time, I mean, you aren't going to lose it overnight. The point is that there are overweight students in med school, so why be so judgemental? Are they hurting you? I have a friend who was obese when she started med school and she' lost 50 pounds. So don't be so critical of others. Okay, I'm done |

I used to work at a gym and some people would come in everyday, get a trainer, dietician, etc. and still could not lose much weight. They appeared to be "obese" but were in good shape.
A person's habits (diet mostly) is important, but genetics does have to play a role for some people. I think the genetics excuse has become used by too many lazy people with poor eating habits, so most assume the genetics excuse is made up like the big bone excuse.

some people are unkind. i wouldnt want to far and i realize the reasons can be both phyical and behavioral. but i wouldnt be so nasty as to denegrate a person to begin with, i try to understand that changing behavior isn't easy, and i wouldnt use weight as the one characterist that would define my feelings about a person.

nwil19 no one asked for advice in this thread. The point payal83 was making is that people shouldnt be so judgemental. I think for the most part we have all been agreeing with her and adding to it from our own experiences.
