these medical schools...

I was wondering....are these foreign medical schools reputable in the US?? I was having a discussion with an ophthalmologist who I am working with (research internship) and he was telling me how he wouldn't recommend people to go the carribean or abroad becasue it will just make their lives harder when they transfer back to the US. How true are the things he is saying?? I am interested in going to a school in the Carribean or abroad so I am trying to find out as much as I can before it is time for me to apply.

Thanks

D

Well, first of all.. spelling Caribbean correctly would be a good start.

Second of all, searching through the forums would be a second good start.

Thirdly, you doctor speaks truth. Try US med schools first, because coming from a Caribbean medical school will make things more difficult. It by no means means you won't succeed, a lot have, but it makes the road more difficult in terms of residency placements and other headaches. Plus, the level of excellence and reliability in Caribbean medical school varies GREATLY depending on which school you choose.

again

Repeat. Try the US first. If that isn't an option, then look carefully at the caribbean options. Also consider Ireland etc. G

Spelling Caribbean? lay off folks. That's just sniping and devalues the other good things you have to say. Bottom line, go to the US if you can. If you can't then try a decent off shore school, a decent DO school or a decent Irish or Aussie school.

I know, I just like to say that because when I asked the very same question the first time I tried posting, the same thing was said to me.

Actually, I recommend looking at irish and Aussie schools first. They have the best reputations of the bunch. then if those do not suit your fansy, then look at St. george, Ross and AUC next.
