Article on Socialized Medicine in the UK

MRIs are free under the UK's socialized medicine program....provided you plan on waiting 80 weeks to get one. But on the brighter side, King's College Hospital has plans in the works to reduce the wait time to 26 weeks.

If you don't feel like waiting a year and a half for your MRI, you can pay £983 out-of-pocket and get it done in two weeks.

i wonder if anyone really benefits from socialized medicine?

I mean,,the docs get paid crap..and the patients get crap as a result.
But i guess it does fill in the gaps for the poor people who cant afford
expensive treatment.

We usually dont think of US that way...but its amazing how much
money the US govt. pays for treating the poor patients or housing them.
For instance...I worked in a nursing home for the elderly and I saw the bills for some patients just for living there : $76,000 per year or more...and
Medicaid ( spelling??) was paying for it.

There's gonna be a dramatic increase in these types of cases where they
are sick and broke.... will the govt. be able to sustain this in the future?

in the UK the elderly are forced to pay for their own nursing home treatment with all of their assets being seized and sold to pay for it!

No UK citizen gets a state pension now and asylum seekers get state benefits but UK citizens do not. Single mothers are forced to live on the streets while asylum seekers are given free housing and state benefits.

Healthcare is disgraceful with patients waiting up to 12 hours to be seen in ER and operations being cancelled 6-7 times. Patients often waiting years for essential treatment.

The health service in this country is a disgrace and I am ashamed that I work for the NHS (National Health Service). Care is free at the point of delivery but at an altogether higher cost. Patients often pay with their lives for care that they should have received a long time ago.

Amixture of Socialism and Capitalism works well, in healthcare Industry. You don't want to be too Capitalistic because the poor will be left out. You don't want to be too socialistic either, because the Governvent has to pay the bill.
