I don't think society can educate or spend its way out of a poverty class. As long as we're a free society we'll always have the lower socioeconomic strata...it's that infamous twenty percent factor. 20% will be our social elite, 20% will be the bottom rung and the 60% will be that curve in the middle. I think they only solution is to abolish any safety net. If failure really meant failure, it might be the kick in the butt many need.
People deserve the opportunity. What they do with that opportunity is up to them. Nobody should ever dig a ditch without knowing they had the chance to do something more with their lives. G
Agree with George. Opportunity is fundamentally what the U.S. is about.

I think it is a good idea. Anything that can help drug addicts function as productive members of society is great. It is sorta like taking a med for your BP. G

yes but i would imagine it is more so when there is no safety net and the only thing keeping you from the street is a cut throat attitude.

at least i know here in the US if i ever fall on hard times i have a small safety margin to fall back on. some people take advantage of the situation being on wellfare for generations and others don't use the system....

I don't see how taxing the capitalist part of the economy can ever hope to pay for the socialist medical plan. Not if we are going to maintain our current standard of care. Just my opinion, though. G

The point I am making is that, If you get read of socialism the poor is problem and if you hike the tax, the rich might not like it. The two system work together.
