[quote="sheikh1"]Me my self I am an immigrant, though I was an illegal immigrant, now I am a citizen of the U.S. I did vote in the last election, though my guy lost the election. The only time I have taken well fair..... is my first six months, in this country. I went through community college, Temple University and now attending medical school. I lived in the center city of Philadelphia but I worked so hard, to pay rent and other bills, and go to college at the same time.quote]
A nice success story. I'd double check the citizen status of your child, though. I think I read that the rules have changed. It used to be any child born in the US was a citizen, but now I think both (or maybe just one) of the parents need to be naturalized citizens before the child gains citizenship. |

it's an entitlement mentality. anyone who has worked in a big city ER knows that there are illegal iomigrants getting better care than middle class families without insurance b/c they qualify for medicaid. its unfair to tax paying citizens of the US. i remember seeing fliers in little haiti in florida advertisements for wellfare lawyers basically listing all the governemnt benefits illegal immigrants could get and hinting at getting thier familes over, there are talk showes in cuban AM radio that do the same thing...its a fleecing that i don't know how long we can take.
on the flip side there are plenty of hard working immigrants doing jobs no one else wants to do so i say have a work visa for 12 months at a time that anyone without a criminal record can get, of course with a quota and waiting list, and anyone..abosolutely anyone that is here illegally gets deported no questions asked and if they get back legally and work the expense of sending them back be deducted from wages. there are also middle class and elderly people who would rather spend money on high speed internet, sattelite TV, bingo, gambling, cell phones, new cars every 4 years, new computers every 2 years, 24" rims for the SUV rather than have to pay a $50 office visit so there is plenty of blame to go around the only difference is that these people are here legally and it is our God given right as Americans to smooch of the governemnt and complain about anything and everything....

I hear your frustration. Try walking in my shoes for a minute. After I did my part by going to war and earning the GI Bill, duly elected officials decided to take away my chance to use it. It galls me no end when I hear duly elected officials proposing free tuition to illegal immigrants.
The world is schizophrenic, so I'm in the "Sit down, buckle up and keep your arms and hands inside the vehicle at all times" mode.

One of the problems with being a free country is that along with the freedom to succeed is the freedom to fail. There are a host of socioeconomic issues (such as dropping out of school, having children too young, or substance abuse, to name a few) that are contributing factors to the reason some people cannot afford health insurance. You don't find too many people who did what they were supposed to do (study, stay in school and strive to make something out of their lives) being on the outside looking in. The unfortunate part of it all is that these people are now considered the "haves" and are footing the bill for the "have nots". |

disagree
There are plenty of programs, but people just don't UTILIZE them. How do you help people who seem to not want to be helped? There is a huge disparity in the infant mortality rates between the classes, for example. Yet, nobody is turned away from quality prenatal care if they want it. Look up WIC. G
