md in 4-5 yrs or less

Dont know about your school, but at AUC you absolutely CAN complete your work in less time. With semesters going year round (through summer), you finish basic sci in 20 months...Then with cores, providing your are willing to do Step 1 right away and start at the first opening for cores, you finish cores 10 months later. Your electives are set up yourself, so you create your own schedule with rotations for the remaining 7.5-8 months back to back. This makes a total of 37.5 months. Very possible, and students do it all the time. I do know students who choose to take longer to study for Step 1, or who are selective on where they want to do their cores, and for these reasons they graduate months later. I must have been in the mood to type because none of this is pertinent,...doesnt make a hill o'beans.[/code]

Of course, considering the difficulties in finding a position in US, the fact that I have a British medical degree will at least leave me the choice to pursue post graduate training in UK if rejected in US without having to do PLAB 1 and 2.

3.5-4 years of education in the Caribbeans... Says who? Just because the calendar months work out to be 36-42 months doesn't mean you can pan out of the program in exactly just that. Ask any Caribbean grad, the minimum you'd spend is 4 solid years of 48 months, but majority spends 5 year to be exact after taking time out for boards, moving in between rotations, extended breaks, visa applications, so on and so forth. At least "home" schools take care of you. I started at Spartan in September 2003, I'll consider myself lucky to start residency in July 2008 with H1B visa. To think, Spartan has the "most accelerated" curriculum in the whole of the Caribbeans!

Thank you Julestx...I concur........Just to mention...... as per doing your MBBS...i think its plain and simple that if you don't finish their reqirement you don't get a MBBS...so to finish there requirements you have to do their clinicals and go through their program...plus write their exams...and go through their residency.....i hope this tells you why doing MBBS from grade 12 is good and why it is a bad idea to do it after getting your BSc...and not to mention that its very expensive to do MBBS in U.K ...one is looking at 300000 - 400000 for the 5 years course.....but if your detemined to waste 2 - 3 years..then i think its is wise to do it in U.K.....

Strongly agreed. Australian, Indian, etc schools are all home schools that are not only chartered by the countries they're located in, but their degrees are also recognized for practice. Sure since you're a foreigner, visa restrictions will apply, but at least the licensing board won't be questioning the quality of diploma you hold. If I were graduate from an Australian school, I can say that I'm an Australian educated graduate.

Coming from Spartan, I cannot say that I'm St. Lucian educated graduate, as the school only physically sits on the island but is not considered and embraced as a St. Lucian institution. I'm to be just a Spartan graduate, a satellite private school with no nation assigned. So if I were to practice in St. Lucia, not only do I have visa issues but also my diploma won't be sufficient unless I bring post graduate training on the table.

I would strongly encourage prospects to first exhaust options in "home" schools before resorting to "satellite" schools.

True....they might be better schools giving you an MBBS degree...and never to mention that you can get into a MBBS program after doing your grade 12....and if you have done your BSc its always better to go for a MD rather then a MBBS......and if you like getting a MBBS and have the courage to live in countries like India and Pakistan i will say go for it.....my good friend is doing his MBBS in U.K (University of Aberdeen)....(5 years MBBS + 2 - 3 more years to get license ) after doing his BSc...at Caribbean you can get a residency after 3.5 - 4 years of education...if you want to waste atleast two more years studying and getting a MBBS and face the same hardship tyring to come back to U.S and Canada and not to mention doing your residency again...i say ...go a head....and do it....

Note: i think this forum should be in Main Foreign Medical Schools Forum

"courage to live in countires like India and Pakistan"...can't vouch for Pakistan but living in India is no different than living in LA, atleast a touch better than in the Carribean...my 2 rupees

Can we at least spell CARIBBEAN correctly? Thank you. And if you're trying to set up a rant or troll for a fight or attention, SPELL CHECK.
