I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who got shafted by the LSU school system. I had lunch the other day with someone I had graduated high school with, and she told me that this other girl we went to school with made it into the LSU med school system (I'm not sure if she's at LSUS or UNO). Anyway, I don't see how she got in other than by knowing someone because she was quite ditzy. Hearing stuff like that makes me really sit back and wonder. I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I have been published twice with a third one on the way, I have tons of community service, and I had the highest GPA out of my graduating chemistry class. Granted my MCAT scores weren't the greatest, but I scored the average score for that testing cycle, and I didn't get an interview. All I got was a crappy rejection email. Just goes to show that even with Edwin Edwards behind bars, it's still the same good ole Louisiana politics at work.

No Names

I know a guy personally I went to school with that was denied in Feb then turned around and was accepted 2 months later for the SAME starting class. Being that he got engaged to someone whose daddy was on the admission committee in between these two letters may/maynot had anything to do with it.

Rocky; you remember who I am talking about don't you? I think he is doing a FP residence now. That girl was a female dog. Carol and I went camping with them one weekend. She complained about everything and was yelling at him the WHOLE time. It was crazy. I still cann't believe he married her. It got him into med school though and I thought I was motivated. The funny part is that he wouldn't let her live with him until he finished school. He said she stresses him out. LOL. That's funny.

How many more stories should i tell.

BTW; I lived next door to a guy from Florida State for about a year. He never lived in Louisiana before he got in at LSUHSC. He was always telling me how he longed to get the hell out of here. I worked there for several years and many people are from out of state. I don't know anything about MSAR. I know because I was there to talk to people.

i am from louisiana, born and raised. the rural program sounds very interesting. i have lived in louisiana all my life, and to say the least i have very little respect for this state. politically, this has to be the most corrupt state in the union. the amount of funds, or lack thereof spent on education has always been a rock-bottom. they do not respect their own, and trash their own when they get the chance. this is a dying state. i just love hearing people talk about the pride of new orleans, and the pride of the south on the radio (870AM). there is no pride of the south other than there always being the possibility of someone looking for the best chance to back-stab you. this state is backwards.

i do have one thing to say, however, regarding the downswing of things in this GREAT state. if there is a rural program in which you could get up to $200,000 for seven years, then do it. if you are from louisiana and have dealt with the pain of living here your entire life, milk them for the $200,000 then get out. Go to CA, NY, KA, TX, or anywhere else better.

Medicine is suppose to be about people, but once in awhile what about numero uno? Trust me, louisiana does not care about you. sacrifice seven years then get out, but do not stay. the taxes here are rediculous, from state filings to property tax, house insurance, car insurance, price of goods, cost of living. this is one of the poorest states in the union, and yet the st. legislature keeps knocking us so they can fill their pockets.

again, take the $200,000 for seven years then leave to go anywhere, maybe even MS.

If you go to the rural areas I HEARD, ok let me repeat I HEARD
You do not have a private life, if is a community of 2,000-5,000 people they are just all over you, they even go to your house for a consult, in the supermarket, in the gas station, everywhere. So is not that you will actually have time for you after your work in the clinic.
The Gossip is the norm, and pray to GOD, you are not in one of the toen gossip.
Theres NOTHING TO DO, you find a lot of snakes, toads and mosquitos.
The nearest macdonal or burger king is more than 50 miles away.
People in general are friendly with some exceptions, but in general friendly, lay back and very religious.

DISCLAIMER:
this is the experience of a friend.
I personally would go there to do residency, at the end is to help people.

I heard the new Governor is honest. Or is that a rumour too?
$200000 for 7 years is good. But usually people have kids and settle down in 7 years, and then they may not move at all.

Looooziana...

As I posted before, I am from Louisiana and went to AUC for medical school. Well, I am 2 weeks from graduating med school and just matched at LSUHSC-Shreveport in Family Practice. I guess the people who decided to not let me into med school there will have to eat crow for a few years. I can count 7 AUC grads that will be starting residency with me. As far as the poster who asked how you are treated if you are non-white? Well, rural physicians are treated with great respect regardless of ethnicity. Heck, our new governor is Indian.
