Article discusses why NPs will replace Physicians

The Doctor Drought - Forbes.com

'The most recent Health Resources and Services Administration Sample Survey report from 2004 shows 141,209 Nurse Practitioners in the U.S., an increase of more than 27% over 2000 data. The actual number of nurse practitioners is now greater than 150,000.
This number is huge and growing, especially since there are only 300,000 physicians in the U.S.'

Interesting article. To think, only TWO percent of med school grads go into primary care. I don't blame them, but I didn't think the number was so low. Residency slots plus incentives are needed to help medical students transition back into primary care again.

I could also see NPs holding ground on any gains they make in independence, which is another hot topic.

Well, I'm just going to drop out now. I'll never be able to compete with these nurses!
