    Thanksgiving

Last night we went over the list of things everyone is bringing to thanksgiving dinner. I was amused at how insistent people can be about certain foods being required for an official thanksgiving dinner. Here are my top 5 foods necessary for turkey day dinner to be official.

    1. Turkey... obviously. However, I prefer mine deep fried in peanut oil. I know, not the healthiest, but then again, who is really aiming for healthy on thanksgiving.

    2. Stand-alone mashed potatoes - they are called that because they need nothing else to be delicious. Gravy is optional, since these potatoes are prepared with generous amounts of cream, butter, and seasoning. The surgeon general should probably put a warning label on this.

    3. Spiral-cut ham - With or without the honey glaze, spiral-cut ham is one of my favorites.

    4. Sweet potato souffle - candied yams topped with a graham crust and sprinkled with nuts. No calories... honest.

    5. Stuffing - nothing beats traditional stuffing... except traditional stuffing reheated 5 hours later with turkey and gravy.

Although not a food item, thanksgiving would not be complete without hours of football, both on TV and at the local park.

My thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without my grandma's stuffing and pumpkin pie with loads of homemade whipped cream.

    Mmmm....can't wait!

Without the cranberry sauce and gravy, I really see no point in Thanksgiving.

so funny and so true...my thanksgiving dinner is almost the same every year...have no wiggle room to be creative....if i think about dropping something, someone will say...no,no,no its not thanksgiving without *insert food item here*

and i agree, i have been deep frying my turkey for years....3 minutes a pound and it doesn't take up oven space??!! who could ask for more...though unfortunately gravy...well you don't have drippins' fro gravy.

the typical are de rigeur...but the unusual are vanilla bean cheesecake, chili cups, crab wontons, brown rice and mushroom dressing, and chili cups.

    can't wait!

ham sucks. it shouldn't be on there over pumpkin pie.
but remember that, even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God you cannot say "but I was told by others to do thus" or that "virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.
