Your 99/99 does not impress me. Most American grads who match at top 20 IM programs (what you wanted) have scores in the upper 80s-low 90s after studying only a few weeks for Step 1. With 6 months of studying they could get 99/99 too. There is NO EXCUSE for a PD to pick a foreignor over an American at a top 20 IM program, since hundreds of qualified Americans are available.
Furthermore, every American and PD knows that board scores do not correlate to what type of doctor you will be. Only weird IMGs place such emphasis on such silly tests. |

silly exams
"There is NO EXCUSE for a PD to pick a foreignor over an American at a top 20 IM program, since hundreds of qualified Americans are available"
True. That's why IMGs dont match in top 20 no matter what scores or what CV they have, and that's for IM not for other specialties where they don't match in top 200. And those "silly exams" (USMLE) were not created by the pakistani ministry of health, but by AMA. If you think they are irrelevant, go ahead and complain to AMA or write to your congressman. I happen to think that they are quite well organized and relevant to show your knowledge and thinking, but that's only me. You guys sound like some kids who get beaten at footbal (or whatever sport) and than cry that rules of the game are unfair and need be changed such that you can win. You simply cannot accept that others (e.g. a pakistani) can be better than you (in most, if not all, regards). Reasons for this mentality are deep in your culture. But that discussion is probably too complicated for you. |

Your lies do not get more true the more you rub them in.
First of all. Cade is absolutely right when he refers to a rather diffuse correlation between high board scores and clinical performance. I have no problem with high board scores being used as PART of criterias, but they certainly should not count more than US experience, being from the country or having references from attending physicians in the US that know you and can vouch for your standards.
You keep on talking about your 99/99 as your main argument, yet there is no way for that to be verified. Neither can you in any case verify your implications about low or failing board scores from anyone that disagrees with you. You can keep on trying to discredit anyone that opposes your opinions by saying they are "inepts or failures", while boasting like a rooster about your own grades. But like a rooster, you only boast and as soon as reality hits in you can't deliver, so why bother?? Maybe if you could stick to the topics instead of going personal every second could it be doable to share opinions here, not having to refute your every allegations. When it comes to US experience, you are flatly wrong when you imply it doesn't matter. Maybe it doesn't count to YOU, but you are not going to be the one picking the prospective residents in any case so who cares what you say. And AGAIN, you keep dodging the point I have said from DAY one that anyone ECFMG-certified KNOWS the facts needed to know. Otherwise the NBME would have set the standards higher, get it?? Intersting you admit that education in your country is free. So maybe you shold close your mouth then when you imply that we all are here because "daddy can afford so".. Did you know that most US medical studnets are in heavy student dept after graduating?? So compared to YOU spoiled kids from Pakistan that gets everything form free, we actually have to pay for everything on our own. I bet you anything YOUR daddy probably either has government conections or bribed the admissions committee(again, just adhering to your standards of debate here). You used the "blonde and young nurses" talk as a "figure of speech" to show me with "so little imagnination" how "that old fellow" is treated.. Then you go on and tell me you "prefer brunettes"!! As if that has anything to do with anything????!! In what sense is that a "figure of speech" for anything besides just confirming your OWN prejudice. I am even starting to wonder if you ARE in America.. It certainly becomes apparent that if anyone lacks imagination here, it must be narrow-minded egomaniacs like yourself.. I agree with one thing you are saying though.. "The IMG continue to fill the crappy positions in Bronx and Detroit residencies as before ".. And they SHOULD as long as americans choose not to and these spots are available. The same is true for many other aspects of employment in all countries in the world. The country serves it's citizens first and then, if anything left, it goes to foreigners. Finally, I am AMAZED that it took you 1 year after medical school to pass StepOne and StepTwo. No wonder you are nowhere with that progress |

keep staying in denial!
You keep staying in denial that anybody can do better than you in the exams. You were probably raised with the impression that are the smartest boy in town. I inform you that the world is bigger than you may think and there are lots of smart guys out there.
"you keep dodging the point I have said from DAY one that anyone ECFMG-certified KNOWS the facts needed to know. Otherwise the NBME would have set the standards higher, get it?? " Yes, but some know them better than others. I ve explained to you as to a 5 year old that not all people who passed the boards know the same things as no two cars allowed on the public roads have the same performance. But even that seem to be tough for you to understand. "I am even starting to wonder if you ARE in America" No, I am on Mars, sitting on Opportunity. "Finally, I am AMAZED that it took you 1 year after medical school to pass StepOne and StepTwo. No wonder you are nowhere with that progress " This is some more pishposh from you. I did not take a single day off for the exams, as I explained to you yesterday. But your short memory is apparently as bad as your logic, so indeed we see the causes of your failures. Rest quiet, because I AM somewhere and getting yet elsewhere, possibly before you. "I bet you anything YOUR daddy probably either has government conections or bribed the admissions committee" I wish he could. That would have saved me of studying for years and years to get admitted to medschool (while you were playing ball ). "Did you know that most US medical studnets are in heavy student dept after graduating??" Most students at private/good universities end up in debt, and med students do too. But eventually the profession will pay off. The debt is less than the salary for one year in a specialty like IM - so really is not that much. Stop making therefore a martyr of yourself because you are pathetic. |

yetanotherimg
I would easily prefer the guy with 99's on both of his USMLE's to the doctor who shares my American accent.
That warm emotional feeling of common ground means nothing if the person can't do an adequate job of healing you. PROTECTIONALISM does not work. It inflates prices and produces a poor quality of product! But don't take my word for it.. Look at all the numerous examples in history where societies implemented protectionalist/isolationalist policies and then fell backward... ending up conquered and humiliated. To stay ahead, a country has the obligation to gather the best resources possible -- the human element. This can only be done by recruiting from all areas of the world! The current immigration strategies actually hurt us in some ways. They discourage qualified foreign workers from coming here. This is a no-no.. Just check any economic study. It's been shown many times..
