But seriously, the democratic party today is absolutely nothing like it was 50 years ago. It was more conservative then than the republican party is now. Admittedly, that isn't saying a whole bunch these days. Too bad so many kook fringe groups have hijacked American politics.

I feel more that they have hijacked the methods through which information can be spun to appear more *fringe* than it actually is. Although I find it hard to point to evidence of this right now ... I still feel that there is balance within the system (although I base that more on the hope that the so-called blue-dogs keep hold of their common sense). I also feel the country is center to center-right more than far left/right. Despite the way the John Q. public is portrayed via these *fringe groups* I believe most people realize where the country is.

Then again... maybe I am delusional.
