The girl getting beat up must have a high threshold for pain or really passive because the article said she couldn't see, hear, and her whole face was swollen from the beating; you'd think at some point she would at least try to retaliate and defend herself out of instinct or something.... I think the person holding the camera and doing the actual filming should get extra time/punishment in addition to the assult charges.

A lot of children learn through imprinting, from adults or even on the TV. Things like racism are learned behaviors. If a kid shows racist behavior, most likely his or her parents are racists or they are learning some racist behavior from other sources. The news media is particularly horrible with this, look at the way certain ethnic groups are portrayed in the media.

I was a white kid who lived in a mixed race area of Chicago, and most of my classmates were not white. When I went to college a lot of of my white classmates who came from suburbs seemed to hold views that were considerably different from my own. I went to pretty highly regarded undergraduate school, but it was also a disappointment as well, especially considering the attitudes of the student body. Still I thought a lot of kids were products of environment.

racism and cruelty are completely different things.

So she's going to go out and do it again?? If you don't have consequences for an action, its basically condoning the crime.

Really? Wasn't there that recent case of two girls in Australia who strangled one of their friends to death just to see what it was like and buried her in the backyard? You're right, it's not as low as a beating, it's even lower.

Instead of just unilateral bashing, perhaps you should spend some time reading news sources from various places. France, England.. perhaps it will shock you as to how their youth act as well.

Aussie males particularly under the influence of ethanol and other intoxicants can be pretty violent. Males in general are violent, most of the mass murders like that Columbine and VaTech psychopaths are male. I highlighted an incident at a high school in suburban Sydney where a group of boys attacked the staff of a school with samurai swords. If I saw Aussie females behave as aggressively as the girls in the Florida youtube video it would be a surprise. I have been here for three years so far and it is far more likely that an Aussie female would be assaulted than assaulting someone else. In fact there was some pervert in the city where I live who was assaulting women in a park. Still I have not heard of a sex deprived student like the one in Virginia trying to pretend he's Rambo down under, maybe its a matter of time, there are plenty of idiots in this south sea island too.

Youth in England and France behave like crap too, I think I mentioned that as well. West Germans tend to be fairly quiet but I think that is just their way. I found youth from Asian countries to be more quiet.

Still my old neighborhood back in Chi town is a great reference, a kid was gunned down for an Ipod near my old high school.

I also forgot to mention that Sydney is starting to have a problem with gang violence, usually gangs are made up of a single ethnic group, the common ones are Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, and White Anglos. The Cronulla fracas which was made out to be racially motivated was really a gang fight between Arab and AngloSaxon gangs that went out of control. The part of the country where I am I have not seen this kind of a problem.
