think of it. had we boycotted the 36 olympics we wouldnt have seen jesse owens- an american black man- take the medal rite in the face of the nazis. now having said that, some people are not taking my sincere advice to have a relaxin day away from this stuff.

Selling Free Tibet stickers and making 3am runs to Wal-Mart to buy supplies (made in China) for anti-Chinese protest signs will accomplish nothing.

Communism in China will eventually be extinguised. If anything is to be changed in China, the bulk of the Chinese populace have to decide to make those changes.

China does not have communism any way..they just have a centralised 'beneficial dictator' [as the chinese call them] politburo.

They have made steady progress in living conditions for the people, but they lack freedom of expression and democracy.

For the poorer people of china 'chow mein' is more important than 'democracy'.....survival comes first.....

Maybe Beijing 2008 = Berlin 1936. In Hong Kong, Adolf Hitler is a character on washing machine commercials. There is even a Nazi cafe there too. The Chinese don't have the same sensitivity towards the Third Reich like those of us in the West.

China kind of resembles Nazi Germany with a homogeneous population, little regard for minorities and foreigners, limited political freedom, strong support of business and industry, it quite well resembles the Germany of the early 20th Century.

Democracy really does not work well in Asia. Even countries like Japan and India have some very serious human rights issues.

In Athens 2004, Jacques Rogge, head of the IOC, made an indirect jab at the US war in Iraq and President Bush.

The boycott will not turn China into a more humane government, but it would send a clear message to them about their way of treating people, and that their way of treating people is not viewed so kindly around the world.

I believe China is way different.

No excessive politicization
No gold medal mania
No sacrifice personal interests for the games
No limit voices of opposition
