Medical Errors Costing U.S. Billions -Robert Preidt

This is an interesting article about medical errors and their cost and how all of this correlates’ to quality of the hospital. Medicaid is going to stop paying for these errors, as they should…

thats fine but they are also gonna stop paying for complications unseen or not...so surgeons beware..if you have a patient with a hematoma or wound dehiscence it doesn't matter that she is a 800 pound slug who ran accross the house for that 10lb of doughnuts....you will not get reimbursed for fixing the dehiscence

there is also a nifty thing in medicare that if your patient is readmitted to the hospital for any reason wit6hin 24hrs of discharge they will not pay for anything done uncluding the previous admission

I don’t think that they should pay to fix medical mistakes like leaving instruments behind, but they should have to pay for the original necessary surgery.

Now the readmission sounds like robbery they have the doctors hands tied. It must be nice to be a government agency and be able to get services and not pay for them.

thats the issue i have..when there has been a mistake like leaving a sponge the surgery to correct it is usually charged off and pts are not charged for it nor are insurnace companies but they use the premise that there was no rule to not bill to attach other stipulations to the rule like the readmission or not paying for complications.

the complications i am talking about are not leaving instruments behind..i am talking about an abscess/hematoma/wound infecxtion/ etc after surgery or fistula, perfing something and so on
