Luckily I have a cousin-in-law in Geneva...so it wouldn't be too bad. Nice place when it's warm. Short trips to Chamonix and Paris. Walk into Carre-Four(?) and find huge Walmart-sized aisles full of cheese!

Ah, Madame.......please note I stayed in Chur not Zurich.
The art of living frugal in Europa is to stay away from 'tourist traps'. And to stay with the normal working class members of the society. Europe is expensive yes, but if you choose to...other wise madame their are 'halb pensions' dying to enlist your support, which are mostly run by older couples or people who just love your company, share their stories and wine.

That was long overdue!

Now, I can use my american status to get free food at a real restaurant instead of staying in line, in BK and upsate, for those long hours

Is there a free fare on Airfrance Boeing 788 too? Stack me in please

The key is not to go in the summer time where the flights cost double. The high speed rail is great but renting a car cost less if there is a group traveling together. Don’t stay in large cities where the hotels cost more.
