Doctors with MBAs

Hi,

Just wandering what the opinions are on doing an MBA if your a medic / MD to be?

Is it something that is worthwhile and might help?

Why do MD's do or consider doing an MBA?

Let me put it this way, why do some MDs become head of large hospital corporations and other medical conglomerates? And the subpart to that question is, how does one achieve that?

--- That's why MDs pursue MBAs.

Hi

Unfortunately I don't have so much knowledge in this area.

Does an MBA really help that much more?

It would helpful and informing if somone could comment.

The MD's that do MBAs, I am assuming that they are willing to leave the clinical aspect of medicine to pursue a more commercial avenue.

Whereas MD's involved in research do not need to acquire such a qualfication.

When is a good tim eto do an MBA? Is it after you have specialised or does it not matter.

Seriously, worry about getting into medical school, passing, graduating, residency, passing your boards and being in practice a few years before even thinking about big business and hospital politics.

You don't have to give up your practice. Your choosing a different side of medicine which includes a lot of management.
