so because of your one experience you are saying that all ppl who do allnighters are too fatigued?

i did a few, but only for classes where it was straightforward memorization questions. i made flashcards and ripped through them over and over and over and over. scored a 97 (the one Q i missed actually ended up being thrown out as well ) on my last one.

depends on the class. if just a regurge, then i am all for allnighters. if the exam requires any sort of analytical thought, rest up and hope you studied well beforehand.

the only time i pulled all nighters were the nights where i had a really bad case of insomnia. when in bed not getting any sleep just watching the hours tick like minutes, i figured i might as well do something productive. either way i was going to be extremely exhausted/tired for the next morning's exam.

I always thought we consolidate memory during REM sleep, and the only way to maximize that sleep is to do it in large blocks. Since neuro class, I have ceased taking naps and try to get all sleep in large chunks. Granted, we have to stay up all night on call, then I take a nap when I get home and then go to bed early, so I can get a larger night's sleep that night and maximize REM.

i've stopped taking naps as well as well because of the above reason. it is not beneficial at all if you don't not complete, or reach for that matter, one REM. another thing about napping is a lot of time you feel more tired after the nap then you did previously mainly because you're not reaching stage 4. stage 4 sleep also depletes over the years. this is why my grandpa sleeps all day and says he's always tired
